As many are aware we lost our Irish Setter, Saffy, to bone cancer almost 4 weeks ago, and the house has been feeling quite empty ever since - if you can believe that with 3 cats and 25 birds still in residence Anyway our local dog and cat refuge just happen to have a 10 year old Irish Setter come up for adoption at the end of last week, and when she was still available yesterday we went to have a look - and Gracie came home today! Gracie had lived with her previous owners for all her 10 years, but a move overseas meant they surrendered her to the refuge - who were happy to pass her on to us as 40 year long owners of Setters! She has settled in very well since arriving - the cats have successfully instructed her as to who is boss, she is ignoring the birds, even when they are flying around, and she has decided which chair is the most comfortable, so it is looking good for her to settle in without problems. Her walking on a lead is a bit undisciplined, but you can teach an old dog new tricks so it won't take long to sort that out. She has a clean bill of health from the vet, and typically for an Irish Setter still acts like a puppy so we expect to have her for several years yet, in spite of being 10 already. I'll take some photos in due course and put them here. cheers, Mike
