Finally pulled my very first baby chicks for handrearing last Sat. The green cheeks that I have are very prolific and I can't imagine that I just got them less than 2 months ago and I've got 21 eggs from them. And I've just discovered that my crimson bellied conures had 6 eggs and the girl is barely one......keeping my fingers crossed that at least i see a baby from them....My eclectus girl has been in the box nesting only coming out briefly once in a while to get some almonds.... but I havent got the guts to go check the box....hopefully there is something happening. Whoo hoo I am just so excited that I just want to share.... :-) Cheers :-) Attachments:

I don't blame you for being excited, I would be too. I have 3 pairs of Green Cheeks (2 are supposed to be breeding pairs) but nothing. Can you tell me a bit about your set up regarding their breeding aviary please, what type of breeding box, diet, size of aviary etc. I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Hi Laraine, I probably am just lucky because I 've gotten the 3 pairs of green cheeks about 2 months ago only and one of the pineapple girls already had an egg in her. But I've learnt a lot from the breeder who sold them to me. The girl laid her egg a few days after she was sold to me and laid 6 eggs while the other pairs laid 8 and 7 eggs in a couple of weeks. They are housed in a breeding setup where the nestboxes are bolted and hangs outside the flight cages. There are 3 flight cages all together housed in a stand. I will take a picture of it and post it for you. This is their breeding setup. In winter, they are housed in a nice big aviary with room to fly around and play. My diet for them consists of Vetafarm south african pellets in a bowl all the time, with calcivet supplement in their water. Daily veg and fruit and other kinda healthy stuff like quinoa, linseeds, puffed rice and puffed corn which i find in Coles. They have up to 5 selections of fruits and vegs, like apple, pear, broccoli, corn, whatever that is seasonal i can find in the fresh food section at the grocer. I would also sprinkle some peanut/ almond/walnut etc nutty stuff that has been broken up in a mortar and pestle. I would also cut up sultanas and stuff. Diet wise, they are spoilt rotten. I always vary the kinds of vegies and fruits so they dont get the same mix all the time. So this, they get daily and have a good appetite with them. They seem very happy with their food and look forward to them all the time. Hope this helps. I will post the pic today if not tomorrow. Cheers, Priscilla

Hi Priscilla Thanks for replying to me. They have a great diet, I could eat it myself. Lol. It's obviously paying off. I'd love to see a picci of the set up. In winter are they all in the same aviary? Do they fight, I presume there isn't a breeding box in there. I put one of my pairs in with my Superbs and they immediately set upon my male, to the extend he was cowering in the corner. He is a bit of a sook.
