On Sunday I got a hand raised Mallee Ringneck parrot from birdsvill they are very rear to get handraised and birdsville has been running for 60 years and has never had hand raised mallee ringnecks before he is really tame steps up already runs to you when you call him and he loves running around in my living room. It was very hard to dicide wether to get a hand raised king parrot or a Mallee ringneck but I chose the Mallee Ring neck I will probly get a hand raised king parrot aswell when I get some more money I will also get a handraised king parrot. Has anyone here ever seen a hand raised malle ringneck before?.

I have hand reared Malles, have seen others that have been hand raised, and you would have been better getting a hand raised King Parrot - they make much better pets - great pets in fact.
Mallee Ringnecks nearly always become aggressive as they mature - by 12 months, if not sooner, it is 95% certain that you will have to keep it in an aviary because of aggression. When a hand reared Malle is breeding they can be very aggressive to humans - flying to attack if you enter their aviary to defend their nest, since they don't have the fear of humans that an aviary raised bird can retain.
cheers,
Mike

What can I do to stop that happening? Lots of work using positive reinforcement training techniques. It is absolutely essential to buy some of Barbara Heidenreich' books and DVD's for learning how to do this sort of training - birdkeeper.com.au/bird-dvds/dvd88....ion-to-training is a great DVD for instance, so it is worth looking at buying this DVD as a minimum. Her other DVD's and books that are listed on the Birdkeeper site are also great for any training. It is possible to keep just about any species tame and pet friendly but many, including Mallee's, take a lot of work to do so. I meant to ask before - is the Birdsville shop you got your Mallee from in Perth or Sydney? cheers, Mike
