I would assume that they are both from the same nest and are siblings, part of a family group. In which case they would be virtually the same age - eggs normally would hatch within a day or two of each other.
cheers,
Mike

Thanks Mike,i thought that maybe one was older as it has different feather colourings as seen in 2 more photos i took of them.I will attach 1 photo in this post and the other in the next post as i am not sure how to attach 2 photos in the one post. Thanks Attachments:

look both like juveniles to me also..........they don't have the same markings either..............so that would possibly be why the feather markings look different. I have seen magpies some have more white on them than others.

A friend at work was raising an orphaned magpie (who has since died) and rang up a wildlife carer who specialised in magpies and apparently the males are the ones that have more white markings on them while the females markings are smaller or more mottled. Hope that helps

Hi all, just an update on these birds,i had noticed one of the juveniles could not fly she seem to have feathers missing from her left wing.I have kept a eye on her over the past couple of weeks walking the streets around my area to make sure she was ok,but there was no sign of inprovement. Her mother was still feeeding her but she just couldnt keep up with them,so last night i rang Wildlife Victoria and they told me that the best outcome for her was to go into foster care. Her main flight feathers could take months to grow back and the risk of her being atacked by a cat or dog was too great or hit by a car as she was crossing a busy main road daily. So under advice from Wildlife Vic as i knew she was sleeping in a small tree in next doors front yard i caught her placed her in box and took her to local Magpie carer where is now in foster care. The carer had a look at her wing which had the missing feathers and said there is no sign of them growing back at this stage.Today her mother came back looking for her but i feel sad by separating them from each other, but its the best thing for her.i just hope her feathers grow back.Attached is photo i took of her a few weeks ago you can see the wing missing feathers. Just another update on the Young Magpie,i made my weekly visit to the wildlife carer yesterday to see how the Magpie is going, along with a box of Crickets for the Magpie and 3 boxes of disposable gloves for the carer.Anyway good news looks like the missing feathers have started to grow back which is great news, but she still has a while before she can be released back.
