After my turks did so well at rearing their first clutch, all 3 babies have gone to live in a big aviary at a friend of mine's house. We estimate that the aviary is about 4m sqaured (well it's more a hexagonal shape). She did own a hand reared lorrie but it died about a year ago. She wants to buy another hand reared parrot as she wants a semi tame parrot but it will still live in the aviary with the turks. She doesn't want to go down the nectar feeding route with parrots again and so wants a seed/ pellet eater. She was looking at a sun conure but they are very expensive in Perth. She wants something along the lines of princess, irns, any of those type parrots as opposed to galahs or corelllas. I said I was ask on here for her on here as I told her "these guys know their stuff on this forum" ;D Suggestions?

if it is going to be housed with the burkes I would suggest a princess parrot from the ones you mentioned. Not an IRN in with bourkes and not the bigger parrots like a galah or corella either. Something that is nice a peaceful.
Princess parrots make lovely pets too.

mmmmmmmm I don't have a lot of experience with these types of birds but at the momet I have 5 cockatiels in an aviary probably around 1.5mx3mx2m and 2 of the males fight quite a bit.........well they did they seem to have sorted it out.......for now.

She was also looking at tiels, would they be OK with the turks? Turks and Cockatiels are fine together - just make sure she has a pair of cockatiels - they rarely mix with other species and a single bird will be pretty miserable in an aviary. cheers, Mike

Thanks for all the advice guys, she is now looking into princess parrots. The greens sell for $150 and the yellows for around $250 in WA, does that sound about right?

Thanks for all the advice guys, she is now looking into princess parrots. The greens sell for $150 and the yellows for around $250 in WA, does that sound about right? Prices sound OK - the greens are probably a bit cheaper here, but it really depends on the local market. Again always get a pair, and be warned that Princesses can have a loud call, which some find annoying. Having lived with two in the house for 16 years or more, it doesn't bother me, but it is rather high pitched and penetrating at times. But they are happy and entertaining birds, always keep[ us amused even after all these years. cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike, will pass on the info. I think the noise shouldn't be too much of a problem as she lives on a 5 acre property so the neighbours aren't too close. Thanks for the pricing info, always hard to tell in WA as it such a small market
