Hello, I have a new baby Pineapple Conure who likes to sit on top of the Nanday's cage. This morning he went right through the bars into the cage. I took him right out but I know he will do it again. Do you think the Nanday will hurt him? The Nanday is more than twice the baby's size and is a female. Thanks for your help. Montana

Hi Montana, I would be cautious with a young Green-cheek and an older Nanday. It may be OK, conures in general are a pretty friendly group with each other, but as you say the Nanday is much bigger, and if you have had her for a while she may be somewhat jealous of a young small bird coming in and taken some of the attention. Let them get to know each other gradually, preferably on neutral ground, and it may well work out but just use caution for a while. How do you find the Nanday - beautiful birds but so noisy from my experience with them, I could never stand the noise I'm afraid cheers Mike

Hi and thanks Mike. As you said the Nanday does screech it goes right through your brain that's why I ended up with her. The woman that had her kept her covered with a black cloth most of the day. I felt sorry for her. I have had her for twelve years now and she is much better - she is a great watchdog - always lets you know when someone is coming. Now when she takes one of her fits, and it isn't often, she usually wants to go to bed, if that isn't the case I just walk out of the room until she stops and then come back and give her a treat. I wouldn't be able to get the two on neutral ground because the Nanday no longer comes out of her cage. She hasn't come out for a couple of years now. You can pet her and do head rubs. She has never bitten me. I could leave her door open all day and she won't come out. I tried trick training her out and that doesn't work either. She just started accepting oranges and shredded wheat because the little conure eats them. I think she likes Precious - it has livened up her life a little more although she is in the kitchen and gets a lot of attention every day. Precious climbs all over her cage and that's where he wants to be most of the time. I was hoping Precious would entice her out of the cage but it hasn't happened yet. I will keep a close eye on both of them and let you know what happens. Have a good day. Montana

Hi and thanks Mike. As you said the Nanday does screech it goes right through your brain that's why I ended up with her. The first time we tried to sell a Nayday in our shop it came back 3 times because of the noise. No matter how much you try to tell people about the noise some parrots can make they just don't believe you until they experience it themselves. Eventually one of our staff took pity on the boomerang bird and took it home - she loved the bird but she ende dup having to find a new rental because of complaints from neighbours about the noise. I tried a couple of more times but soon decided it just wasn't worth the problems of selling a very noisy bird. Pity - they are a stunning bird in full feather and condition. Sounds like it may work out well with your two conures - fingers crossed. cheers Mike

Hello, Just wanted to add I glanced up from the computer and the little conure was in the Nandays cage eating out of her bowl. He can squeeze himself right through the cage bars in a certain place. The Nanday was on a high perch and the bowl was underneath a little to the back of the cage. I wonder do you think the Nanday knew he was there? Anyway, nothing happened but I still watch them. The little conure is happiest on the Nanday cage. He will interact with me but he flies to her cage first. Its tough trying to get him to bed at night puts up a little fight. Treats don't work with the nighttime routine. Regards. Montana

I am sure the Nanday was aware the Green-cheek was there - they don't miss things like that I would suspect by now if the Nanday was not accepting of Precious's presence then the little conure would have lost a toe or two by now! cheers, Mike

Hi, Thanks Mike! I think these two just might work it out. That would be so much fun! The little baby is certainly determined. And, the Nanday is a gentle bird. She has never bitten in all these years. I will still keep a close watch but like yesterday the litter sucker crept in their without me seeing him. I will let you know how they progress. Regards Montana
