Hi, I'm new here. A few days ago we found a juvenile Peewee/Magpie Lark who had been tipped out of his nest. No parents were around and we could not see a nest that he had fallen from. He is very bright and active and not ill or injured in any way and I have been feeding him a combination of mealworms and mince aswell as water. I am just not sure how often/how much I should be giving him. He's got a tail, can walk and is starting to hop/flap his wings but still asks for food every hour and shows no interest in attempting to feed himself. How often should I be feeding him/how much per feeding and how long will it take him to catch on to the idea of eating/drinking by himself. Should I be feeding him an insectivore slurry aswell? Or is he to old for that as he is happy eating the meal worms. I was told to start him on crickets aswell? Should I leave him his own water in his cage or continue with the syringe dropper water? I have attached a couple of pictures of him to give an indication of his age/size. I only have had budgies who are all quite disturbed by the very loud noise he makes near their cage

Hi! What a mouth! If you have insectivore mix I'd mix some in with the mince just for added nutrients. He would still be fed by his parents in the wild and for some time so you feeding him will still happen for a while. You can try putting the dish of mealies in front of him to see if he will help himself but I'm sure for now he will still want them off you. Every hour feeds sounds good tho if they aren't enough he will let you know by his noise. You can leave him water if you want but I doubt he'll know what to do with it and probably spill it everywhere. He should be getting enough moisture in his food but if he accepts it from the dropper I'd continue. He looks like he's really healthy, it's a shame his folks didn't come back for him. Hope it all goes well with him and keep us posted Manda
