Hello, My lutino and normal grey cockatiels have been mating for several days now but I believe they are too young? Not more than nine months old. Should I put a nesting box in the cage or not? I would like whats best for them. On an added note the male doesn't sing but another male who is not mating sings all the time. Any help appreciated. Montana

I wouldn't get too worried Montana - if they were in the wild nobody would be stopping them mating and even breeding. At 9 months they can breed successfully, but very often they will lay eggs but they will be infertile. Mating technique is often imperfect, the male may not yet be fertile, or even the hen is not yet producing eggs.
I wouldn't bother with a nest box yet - just let them practice, and see what happens. Generally I would put in a nest box for a pair of cockatiels at around 15 to 18 months. If eggs do start appearing then we can sort out what to do then.
cheers,
Mike
