Hello, Going to the Bird Store tomorrow to check out some parrots. Could you tell me what parrots besides the African Grey are good talkers? Also, I have a Pineapple Conure - do they talk? He is just a baby now. What a handful! Its like having a toddler! ::)I've heard the Cockatoos in the store talk, I think you might call them Galas? I find them intimidating. When I visit the Bird Store there is white Cockatoo who always flies to my shoulder (I think he wants me to buy him) but I'm always "need a little help here" someone take him off. Whats nice about the Bird Store is most of the birds are not caged and quite tame. I know birds sense when you are afraid of them. They have a blue and gold eclectus who is quite large but he doesn't frighten me. I guess its a communication thing. I'm comfortable with the eclectus. Just wondering. Thanks Montana

A lot of parrots can become good talkers - but it does depend on the parrot itself as well. Quakers, eclectus, cockatoos, cockatiels and budgies can all be fantastic talkers. Do some research and decide what money you want to spend, what size of bird you want, and what their needs are (cockatoos can live to be 100 yrs old!), before you commit to anything.

Quakers, Indian Ringnecks, Eclectus, Cockatiels, Cockatoos and Amazons are all great talkers. Males tend to be more talkitive than females. Not all birds learn to talk either it just depends on the individual bird, although the above mentioned are likely to talk ;D

Thanks everyone! I realize it depends on the bird. I have cockatiels and they don't talk, but they have a pretty song. I was just wondering. I have been waiting a long time for an African Grey baby and just heard from the breeder he lost his babies? He didn't go into detail. There are another possible 4 eggs but who knows if they will hatch. I love my little green cheek and he doesn't talk but, he doesn't have to his personality more than makes up for his silence. I don't believe a Cockatoo is for me although they are beautiful. I lean more towards the eclectus. Thanks again. Regards Montana

Make sure the breeder is reuputable - that's all I have to say! Meet and greet them, take a look at their birds!

Hi Robyn, Sorry I meant Mccaw. I have had Eclectus on my mind. They have an Electus there but you are not allowed to hold him right now - he wants to mate with everyone's shoulder?? He is beautiful!! I was looking at a male Nanday for my female. They said I could take him home on a trial basis and see if my female likes him. I can take him back if it doesn't work out but by then I will probably be too attached. Thanks Missmess, I have met with the breeder several times - his birds are all in good feather and well cared for. I guess I will just wait for my African Grey baby. There are lots of ads on the internet for them - shipped to your door - but I don't trust them I need to see the baby in person. Thanks for the input. Regards Montana

An African Grey is my dream bird. There was a young female African Grey at a Sydney Pet shop a few weeks ago and she may still be there (I haven't been back). If you are able to, I think I would go with any breeder that Mike recommends.
Be careful of internet adds for these usually more expensive birds being shipped to your door. A lot of them are scams. I responded to one on a macaw, but it was a scam and luckily I did not fall for it.

Hi Everyone and thanks! Right now I have my hands full with "Buddy" a male Nanday I brought home for my female. He has already bitten me. Beautiful bird (9 years old). He seems very interested in my female. I have their cages side by side. When Buddy is out he struts around on top of her cage but she doesn't seem interested and then I have quite a time getting him back in - he doesn't like hands. I'll let you know how that goes. I have to work the weekend so I probably will not let him out. Too hard to get him back in. Regards Montana
