Hello, I have just found this website and had a bit of a read. It's a great place, I wish I'd found it earlier!
My question is about my female 6 year old Alexandrine. She has always had something on her beak - I'm not sure how to describe it - like a slight ridge / weakened line across the bottom third of her beak - she's had it since she was about 2 years old I think.
Today I noticed that a very thin shell of the red coating of her beak has come away on one side of the beak on the bottom third. I have pressed on it, and pulled it, but it doesn't seem to give her any distress. The weakness goes across to the other side and I assume the rest of the coating will probably pull away at some point.
Should I worry about this? I'm sure there's still a hard beak until that very thin red coating. She LOVES to chew things.
She is a very fussy eater. I fill her bowl with different kinds of food and half gets thrown onto the floor as she goes through it, rejecting what she doesn't want. She tends to like food with "crunch".
She loves: corn on the cob, snap peas, passionfruit, apple, celery, a grape, snow peas, pomegranate and also some rice and pasta. I give her a little bit of chicken every now and then - and also biscuits that she can crunch on.
Can any people with Alex experience recommend what else I could try her on?
Thanks for any help you can give - it is greatly appreciated.
Warm regards, Karina

No don't worry about it. I"ve got a hen who has lost lots of her beak when fighting with another female. The top beak doesn't grow back but the bottom keeps growing over it and effect her bite. We always trim the bottom beak with nail clippers to give her a good bite. She seems fine and managed to eat her food.

Probably you should take her to a animal clinic.
