Hi.. My husband is building me a couple of aviaries. I am just wondering can I house a pair of Cockatiels and a pair of Lovebirds in the same one. Or will they need to be separated? Thanks

Depends on the size of the aviary. I would put something larger than cockatiels in with lovebirds. I have had lovebirds kick kakarikis out of their box and kill the almost fledged chicks.(they dug a hole in the gravel to get next door) At the moment I have a pair of king parrots(not yet at breeding age) in with my breeding colony of nyassa. Seems ok at moment. Nyassa are still all breeding well, and the kings dont seem overly bothered by them.

I've known a peachface take a toe off a Galah - definitely don't recommend mixing lovebirds with cockatiels. It could work out but in 95% of cases it won't and the cockatiels will suffer.
If you like lovebirds then keep one of the aviaries just for lovebirds, but if the two aviaries are joining make sure to double wire the wire between the two aviaries to stop the lovebirds chewing toes off birds in the adjoining flight.
cheers,
Mike

Thanks guys. I will definitely keep them separated then. Never realised lovebirds could be so evil... I thought it would be the other way round.
