As some may have seen I've just finished handrearing some rainbow lorikeets but the female is getting nippy. The male did at first but I've got him to stop rather quickly but she just keeps nipping. I've tried saying no sternly, wobbling my hand when she nips my finger to get her to concentrate on her balance (which worked for the male) and I've tried balling up my fists as well ignoring it all together. I do not want to sell her until she has stopped biting, unless its a well experienced person who's willing to take it on. What can I try to get her to stop? In my short years I've noticed females seem to nip more, why? Please don't reference books as I don't have the time, I just want some good tips, advice or links to other websites. Thanks

It certainly seems to be the time of year for Rainbow Lorikeet problems. Unfortunately I have never really felt I understand Rainbows so it is difficult to give useful advice and in this case of yours Jack I have never had a Rainbow biting at such a young age - usually between 6 and 12 months is the time this behaviour appears. All I can do is refer you to my reply last night at this thread aussiebirds.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=necter&thread=10742&page=1cheers, Mike

Just thought I'd say now, although I know it's been a while! I managed to get her to stop eventually by putting a little homemade jam on my finger everytime I went to pick her up. She'd taste the sweet jam and began to associate my hands as something good and not something to fear! Just thought I'd mention it incase anyone else has the same problem, which I'm sure some people do. But as with any method it took paitence and time.
