Hey guys, I've recently purchased a pair of bush budgies in hopes of eventually breeding them. I've bred normal budgies for years but finding information on these guys seems to be really difficult. What I really want to know is if breeding them is any different to breeding regular budgies, can they only breed in a large area like an aviary or will they also breed in a cabinet? Since they're smaller than regular budgies should they also have a smaller breeding box (finch size) or a regular box? Also, if you have any pointers please let me know, I would really appreciate it

They breed exactly the same as show budgies - same species same instincts.
I used a standard budgie box, and I found they tended to have higher fertility than show budgies. If they are pretty calm then a cabinet should be OK - if they are a bit flighty then perhaps a larger flight might be better - something like 2m x1m x 1m would be good.
Actually I always prefer breeding birds to be able to have a fly if possible since it tones up the muscles and can reduce breeding problems such as becoming egg bound.
cheers,
Mike
