Hi everyone! After a very eventful first two weeks at his new home, we have finally settled into having a bird in the family. A week after he moved in with us and at only 3 months old, our new galah 'Smurf' got startled while being taken out of his aviary last Sunday. After putting up posters all over Toowoomba, we had a call from the RSPCA Pet D Tect saying someone has reported a tame Galah and where to go visit them. This afternoon, 5 days after going missing, we found Smurf 5 blocks from home, happy to see me and my pile of peanuts and Pawpaw!
We have three young (5,3 and 1) children that adore him, and have just signed up to taking on a baby cockatoo as well. We are unsure if they will cohabitate well together, but hopefully with enough love and attention they will be fine! Fingers Crossed!
Luckily I had clicker trained and tamed Smurf quite quickly- he had not been hand reared and we purchased him as an aviary bird, but he made quite the impression on his temporary family who are using the reward money to purchase their own galah after falling in love with ours!
Hope to talk to many of you soon! Hannah

Hi Hannah and welcome to the Forum.
Galahs are lovely happy birds, and it is good to hear that clicker traing was successful for you. Clickers can be a great training aid when used correctly - you will also find it useful with the Cockatoo when you get it.
Hope you enjoy you time with us, and remember that we all love to see photos of our birds.
cheers,
Mike
