Hi everyone , I have a male red rump parrot, and he looks quite odd because although he is mature he has no red on him at all. The breeder I got him from got him DNA tested him because he was confused as to how two normal red rumps produced a full green chick. He also has black scale like patterns on him; the black is around the edges of the feathers. Is this a kind of mutation?

How do you know it is a male - has it mated and the hen produced fertile eggs? To me from the photos it looks like a normal hen! Even the head shape suggests hen to me.
So, why is it supposed to be a cock bird.
cheers,
Mike

Reading back to the first post I see that it has supposedly been DNA tested - I would be revisiting that testing and getting a surgical sexing done, or at least a new DNA test from a different lab.
cheers,
Mike

i will be getting it tested again, just to make sure thanks, i realised today that 'he' if he is a boy, had blue shoulders and his rump has gone yellow with red appearing over the back between the wings... is this normal? i noticed it after he finished moulting...
