Hi in a post on another forum someone told a new Ecky owner not to feed their Ecky pellets, Jax has been having pellets in his diet since he weaned (Along with his fresh fruit, veg and stuff) He seems happy and healthy, i am just wondering if I should't be giving them to him?
This has totally confused me, I have never heard anyone say not to feed pellets to Eckies before and now I have heard two people in the same day say it (Different forums and posts) Weird!

Some Eclectus can get a neurological disorder called toe tapping and wing twitching - and in some birds it has been related to particular brands of pellets. I have heard of Pretty Bird and Roudybush being implicated as a cause - when the pellets were removed the disorder ceased. However I know of other Eclectus that were not affected by those brands. If your Eclectus is acting normally then I would not worry - if the bird will tolerate pellets then they are a good food to give. A page about toe tapping is at www.landofvos.com/articles/index.html#toetap - and the site www.landofvos.com/ in general is a great resource for Eclectus owners. cheers, Mike

Hi. All my birds get fed Vetafarm maintenance pellets (mixed with nuts, seeds, dried fruit, oats, millet etc). When I had my birds on seeds only, some developed yellow/poor feathers - due to vitamin defficiency. My galah (galahs are prone to fatty livers, when fed on seed-only diet) is in perfect health with no dietary problems what so ever. I'm a big supporter of pellets!!

Hi, I have been researching the correct diet for electus , l have been feeding pellets to all my parrots for the last few years, what l have read recently is do not feed the coloured pellets" feed the natural colour pellets Vetafarm." With the coloured pellets it can take up to two years for them to affect the birds that may be sensitive to the colouring. PS l feed veggies fruit small amount seeds and some times vitamins. :-)

She also does not recommend coloured pellets, or any food with colouring added - preferring natural coloured pellets. cheers, Mike
