Hi everyone,
I have recently acquired two birds, a female Galah and a male cinnamon Rainbow Lorikeet, at least we believe that he is male based on his behaviour, he keeps trying to mate with our hands.
Both birds were found and brought into the vet where I work as a groomer. After advertising them and holding them for 7 days waiting in vain for someone to claim them I was asked if I would take them as none of the other staff wanted them. I have had birds in the past including Rosella's, Budgies, Princess Parrots, Quarrions and a Galah that had been hit by a truck and survived, but he was already an old bird and he passed away about a year after he took up residence with us.
We have named the Lorikeet Casanova (for obvious reasons) and the Galah is Rose Lea because she likes to strip everything. I am looking for some advice with her, she is friendly, wants her head scratched all the time and is not a screech-er but she is terrified to come out of her cage and appears either unable or unwilling to fly. She won't even try and will bite you if you try to remove her from the caqe, which makes it even more remarkable that she was found walking down the street. We also have no idea how old she is although the vet thinks only a few years. I know that biting is often a trust issue so we are working on building trust. I will probably be pestering you all with questions on building trust and training.
Rhonda
