Hi everyone, Well, as the subject suggests I am from Central Queensland! I only have one bird, a two year old Galah named Winger. He was caught in a barbed wire fence when he was a about one and he was so lucky we found him. His wing was so badly damaged his wing just fell off one day! He is such a cutey. I love Aviculture even though I only have Winger. I think he was what influenced me. I would love to start breeding birds, maybe with something a lot more easier though, such as Budgies, Cockatiels or Finches, not a Galah! I do know a fair bit about birds, not just from researching, but I have one family member and a friend who breed birds and I got a lot of information from them. I also breed poultry, mostly chooks and a few Guinea Fowl (beginning on that). I would have put pictures but having trouble uploading any from Image Hosting websites. Would have liked for everyone too see Winger and an avatar with him, but I should be able to fix that by the 21st! Well, I hope to have fun meeting everyone, asking questions and maybe, just hopefully sharing some information! And maybe very soon I will have some aviary birds! Thanks, Jacaranda

Hi and welcome to our Forum. Hope you enjoy your time here.
Sounds like Winger was a very lucky little bird. Galahs are such cheerful birds I'm sure he gets on great with only one good wing.
If you want to get an introduction to parrot and finch breeding then cockatiels are a good place to start with parrots - easy to sex, usually good parents, will breed most of the year in Queensland and generally trouble free.
Finches such as Bengalese, Zebras and even Gouldians are also good starter finches. They don't need live food unlike the African finches, so are easier to provide for, and are generally good breeders.
cheers,
Mike

Hl Jacaranda Hi & welcome Breeding birds is good fun, I have bred for 52 years but mainly finches, I started with Zebs, but now I would start with bengales there got a more gentle nature that Zebs. But if want to try parrots Budgies or Quarrions are a good start. Good luck.

Thanks,
Yes Mike, Winger gets on really well with his wing, although sometimes I think he forgets he only has one ;D And thanks for the info on which birds to start off with!
Thanks blackcobra, I always have liked Zebra Finches, they seem like a nice finch to start off with.
