Just wondering what thickness the wire mesh needs to be on an aviary to be able to house a pair of king parrots. I've seen photos of them housed in aviaries with netting that most people use for budgies and finches, like the small 10mm x 10mm stuff. Would mesh that's 20mm x 20mm with a 1.5mm wire diameter be OK? Cheers!

I used 12.5 x 12.5 mesh, 1.2mm wire thickness. King Parrots are not wire chewers so they would be OK with the thinner and cheaper 0.9 mm thick wire but I always went for the heavier wire to allow for future uses. If in the future you change birds around and want to put, say, a pair of Alexandrine sin the flight then the thicker wire is definitely needed. Some Alex's will even chew 1.2 mm wire.
If you have the 20 mm wire on hand then that will be fine - as long as snakes are not a problem around you. Quite a big snake could get through 20mm wire and it might not take an adult King, but it would be quite capable of taking a half grown baby in the nestbox.
cheers,
Mike
