As you guys may, or not, know, Perth is experiencing a record heatwave, over 40 degrees for a week, boy it's hot. I don't have misters in my aviaries but hose them down constantly. Problem is my turks have 4 babies in the nesting box , about 2 weeks old. It must be a like an oven in there. Do you think I should pull the lid off the nesting box to get more air in there or would that just freak them, and the parents, out? They make such a racket when I check on them normally (a fear call) so not sure what to do. This heat is unbearable!

I've taken tops off nest boxes in very hot weather but it really depend son the birds. Some will quite happily accept that while others won't. You would have to try it and see. I've never needed to tried it with Turks though - only with Kakarikis, budgies, cockatiels and Bourkes.
With Kakarikis I've even been able to take to top off and put the box on the ground - didn't worry them at all.
You could also drape a wet towel over the top and sides of the box - the evaporation of the water in the towel will cool it down a bit.
Finally if the babies seem to be really stressed you might need to consider removing them for hand rearing - Turks do hand rear fine, as long as they are not too old - you want to see plenty of pin feathers ideally for them to readily take to hand feeding, later might be a bit tricky getting them to start feeding.
cheers,
Mike
