I bought this young red rump on Boxing Day. The breeder told me that he left the nesting box about 4-5 weeks ago. He is avairy bred and not tame. One week later he is eating seed from my hand. He is quite skittish as to be expected however I am pleased with his progress. He has a cute ritual before he eats from my hand. First he will fly to the left side of the cage, then to the right hand side and finally drop down onto the perch. He will then walk to the middle of the perch only to return to the side of the cage. He will repeat this a few times, each time moving closer to my hand and the offered food. He will then proceed to help himself.

I tried to attach a pic however the file size is too large (taken with an iphone). Is there a way to reduce the size so that I can attach pics?
This morning he cut short his routine and came straight onto my hand to eat his breakfast. I supose that his confidence and trust in me is increasing.

This morning Cosmo jumped straight onto my hand. Progress! Later on when I was leaving him he flew onto the front of the cage looking at me intently. This is real progress. Either he is starting to enjoy my company or is just plain hungry! He is eating a mixture of cokatiel mix and vegies, (carrot, kale, spinage, apple, pear, corn). It's obvious when he pigs out on the veggies as he poos a lot more. At least he enjoys my 'cooking" Attachments:

More progress with Cosmo the red rump. For the last couple of days I have let him out of his cage to explore the laundry. he would make his own way back into his cage. This afternoon he flew onto his cage and then stepped onto my hand to eat some seeds. This is good progress for an aviary bred bird. He is skittish in the mornings however he seems to be calmer in the afternoon. I do not know if this is normal behavior for a grass parrot however I get a real buzz when he chooses to step onto my hand, especially when he has the entire room to fly in ;D I will load some photos when i can get some under 1KB. The photos i took this afternoon are about 2KB.

Sounds like you are making great progress - look forward to the photos (and I assume you mean 2MB not 2 KB!)
cheers,
Mike

That's awesome! My red rump was a head fed baby and bonded to me instantly ..... Sounds like your guys is progressing very fast! I recently purchased a love bird who hates every ounce of my being and I am trying everything and she just keeps biting me to the point of drawing blood.... I think I'll stick with my blue red rumps from now on

Thanks for the positive comments. I hope you do well with your love bird. They are a beautiful little bird. How is your red rump doing? I find that Cosmo is still skittish, the slightest noise and he flies off. He is however a very quiet and beautiful little thing. He now lets me gently rub his neck, side and wing but only when he is feeding on my hand. I don't know how tame he will become but I am pleased with his progress. Things have slowed down since I have gone back to work but it is really exciting to let him out of his cage every morning and evening for a little R&R. He goes back into his cage when he is ready and will let me aproach him without flying off. Hopefully he will allow me to give him a tickle behind the neck soon. Time will tell.

My red rumps name is albus and he will let me do anything to him.... Literally! He is the greatest bird ever! He lets me hand him up side down .... He love to cuddle with me... We do occasionally have some slight aggression when he's feeling in the mood to mate w me but other then that he's the best thing.... He's quiet too which I value! I'm not a big fan of loud screeching hahaha

Albus sure is cute How did you manage to get a hand raised red rump? I searched all over Sydney and every breeder said that they weren't interested. I suppose that there isn't enough money in it for them. I bought Cosmo for $15 from a guy in western Sydney. He wasn't really a breeder, just a bird fan with an avairy.
