Hey everyone, The whole point of me buying a large aviary and not a small cage was so the birds could have plenty of room to move so that being said, I guess it's best not to clutter the aviary inside with too many toys and bushes??? Are the birds more likely to fly upwards and downwards than across?? I have been outside watching the lorikeets in the trees and they tend to hop up and down from branch to branch in a short, but zig zag motion. So rather than having a huge horizontal branch/perch across the center from left to right, I'm thinking better to have one going from front to back instead?? so it wont block the flight path?? Also that could keep the droppings from that perch away form the food & water area?? If i keep the tree and perch to the left and the food, water & baths to the right. I also thought of attaching a small box (not a nesting one) with a perch across the center in case they feel scared and want somewhere smaller to cuddle. Is that necessary??? I am finding it difficult to find photos on the net of any smaller outdoor aviaries already set up. Any advice/photos/links would be appreciated. Sorry for all the questions but I want to do this right from the start. Many thanks Helen xo

Budgies will fly up down and sideways - they will often go to the floor especially if seed has fallen on the floor. In the proposed aviary I would have perches going from front to back - at least two at a level above the top of the door (one of them above the door) so they can fly from one to the other. Perhaps also one long one just a bit lower going diagonally from the back right to the front left corner. You don't need and sort of box - could cause problems. Also ignore what Lorikeets do - completely different birds in behaviour. cheers, Mike
