Hi everyone, I noticed today that my female princess has only half of her bottom beak, will she still be able to eat the seeds and other foods I put in their aviary? Will this part of her beak grow back? And how long will this take?
Thanks in advance

she only seems to get anything to eat when her mate feeds her.... and she has some yellow feathers, even though she is a normal coloured bird?

When did she lose part of her bottom beak? Are the Princesses sharing their aviary with any other birds, and what birds are on either side of their flight? - assuming it is in a bank of flights.
Yellow feathers are a concern - in a normal Princess that will often indicate a liver disorder, and if she has only recently had a part of her beak break away - without it being due to aggression from another bird, my thoughts immediately turn to PBFD, which could weaken the beak and damage the liver.
Unless there is a likelihood of the beak damage being due to aggression, I would think a visit to you avian vet might be in order.
If the beak is broken through an accident of aggression then if half the beak is still there it should grow back. However if there has been damage to the growing area at the base then it may not fully recover. That regrowth may take several months to fully recover, but she should cope with feeding by herself if you feed lots of soft food rather than hard pellets or seed. I have a friend with a Green cheek that lost all her bottom beak due to a fight with a Ringneck, but she is coping just fine with a soft food/mash type of diet.
cheers
Mike

i think she lost that part of her beak when another bird was in with her (it was a female red rump, and i told someone not put it in with my princesses ) i have been putting soft foods like banana, kiwi fruit (and some mashed fruits) i do have a red rump parrot in there with the princess pair, but she's an exeption to most red rump parrots. (actually prefers to defend the female princess) i have canaries, quail, diamond doves, budgies and red rump parrots.
