Hi and welcome to our Forum - you will find that almost all our members are in Australia. Alex's are great birds - I've bred a few, hand raised a lot and have 10 living in our house! Your aviary (note spelling ) is a reasonable size but that nest box, mostly made out of particle board by the looks of it will likely get destroyed pretty quickly. Alexandrines love to chew - and they don't care what it is as long as it is chewable. It can be a good idea to frequently replace perches with fresh ones with plenty of bark so they can chew the bark off. Pine cones are another good item to give them to chew. It is pretty easy to make up some chew toys to hang in their aviary to keep them entertained as well. Small parrot seed is fine - do not give them large parrot seed mix - that is only really suitable for Sulphur-crested Cockatoo. But have a look at giving a good pellet such as Roudybush - you will have healthier birds if you do give them pellets. Fresh fruit and veggies every day is also pretty essential to keep them healthy and stimulated. Veggies can include corn, capsicum, celery (especially the leaves), carrot, silver beet, endive, choy sum and other Chinese greens, broccoli, chillies, but never never avocado - it is potentially poisonous to parrots. Our Alex's love passion fruit (I cut it into quarters for them) and Granny Smith apples, but are less enthusiastic about other fruits. I cut all my veggies and apple up into bite sized pieces. Breeding season is restricted to spring - with egg laying in SE Queensland generally in August, and maybe a bit later into September in colder parts of Australia. Generally they only have one clutch a year but some will double clutch is the first are removed for hand raising at a young age. cheers, Mike

Hello and welcome I also have two Alexandrine parrots and they are just an awesome bird. Their diet consists of fresh fruit and veggies, nuts and once a week, a small piece of chicken. I only use sunflower seeds has a training treat.

I noticed that a lot of breeders are using 200 to 250 mm PVC piping,25mm square wire mesh, end caps and a 45 degree Y join to make a strong and durable Nesting hollow. I don't have any photos or plans at this present time But I try and get some.
