I have a young princess parrot and have been offered a hand raised red rump (female), Both are about 3 months old. Would it be safe to house them in the same cage, approx size 63x63cm square? I am considering getting the red rump to keep the princess company during the day though I have heard that red rumps can get very aggressive during breeding season (the males). T think that the cage is a bit small for two pricincess parrots so I am in two minds as to whether or not this is a good idea. Maybe a second cage for the red rump and let them out together for playtime?

i wouldn't know about a cage inside, but i have a pair of Princesses and two female red rumps in an avairy together (temporary) but they get along well, it also depends on the temperments of the birds as well, my one of my red rumps could be put with almost any bird thats not too aggressive, she's been with canaries before (not my fault, as no one listens to me ) and she loveed them to bits! ;D

Could well be OK - they are both young and growing up together is more likely to mean they will stay compatible - particularly if the Princess is a male. DO you know the sex of th emale yet - if you provide photos of the head and the rump of it I might be able to tell you if you don't already know
The cage is OK- just!! I would prefer a larger one if they are to share - 75 to 80 cm wide would be ideal.
Just keep an eye on them as they mature and especially during the breeding season - spring. With Red-rumps the male is the more likely to cause trouble but an occasional female can be a problem.
cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the replies. The red rump is a female however I do not know the sex of the princess. I lean towards a female as she is very quiet and smaller than average only about 100g and her colours don't have the blueish shade of a male but.... I would also prefer a larger cage however it is the only cage as yet. i hope to get a larger one in a few months.
