Get a couple of clothes pegs and put them on the cage front below either side of the door to stop it sliding down by accident. Also it looks like the cage has plastic perched that came with the cage - and plastic perches are bad news for the bird's feet. Replace them with natural branches from eucalypt trees. The diameter should be about twice that of the plastic perches currently in the cage. In addition I suggest trying to hide those power cords as much as possible. Cockatiels are not big chewers but it isn't unknown for one to decide a power cord is a good chew, with possible disastrous results. pretty looking cockatiel cheers, Mike

Thanks mike They arent plastic. They are wood. but I was working on changing a few things anyway but didn't want to overwhelm him with a new environment. His diet shall be one to change too... haha. So I have to do anything to the new branches? I dont want diseases or anything getting to him. Disinfect them or something? AND OMG CHEW he chews everything! haha...I keep a close eye on him when his cage door is open If he flies down Ill watch him and when he goes over to the cords I just pick him up and put him on my chest whilst im sitting down, he hasnt shown mush interest in them... YET. Also, He has a habit of sitting on the door like that now (if not on top then in the door way itself on the wire) will this hurt his feet? I was thinking of getting some perches (branches to slot over the top of it so he isnt sitting on something so skinny. OHOH and he likes to rip up the newspaper/paper towel through the cage floor -_- is that gonna harm him? Should I get cat litter or something?

I don't do anything to branches before using them as perches - never had a problem - and leave the bark on the branch as the bird will enjoy chewing it off. around 20 to 25 mm diameter is good for a cockatiel. With that sort of thickness I never have to trim my cockatiel's nails. Sitting on the top of the door won't harm his feet if he is only doing it for a little while - 24 hours a day obviously would though. I personally wouldn't bother with trying to put some sort of perch o the top of the door. What I would suggest is having a small play stand on the top of the cage, and then opening the door only a short way, holding it up with clothes pegs, so that the highest point is the play stand. He is using the door as a perch currently because it is the highest point. Newspaper is safe - I use it on the bottom of my cages and the Alexandrines and African Greys especially will chew it up. Don't use cat litter - the clumping ones can clump inside their gut and kill them while the compressed paper ones can swell and do the same thing. Acrually ther eis one that is safe to use, Max's Cat Litter - available in Woolies - which is made from rice husks that come from producing white rice. If swallowed by a bird it is digested and is harmless. I use it with babies being hand raised since if they decide to experiment by chewing their bedding it is won't harm them - see the photo below for Max's Cat Litter in use with a couple of (big) babies cheers, Mike
