I'm getting my galah in a just over a weeks time. I grabbed a large bird cage for the little fellow. Only issue is that the cage has been outside and succumbed to bad rusting... the frame is still there and strong just needs a good sanding, pressure blasting and work.
Are there any bird safe cage paints? I have a week so airing the cage isn't a worry. Just need something to paint over it once I strip the rust away.
If needed I can, sort of replace the cage panels but would rather keep them as I'm not sure if they can come off anyway... I know the roof can come off and it will be!
Many thanks
Chewy

Basically all paints are safe and oil based paints are the hardest wearing. However you need to be sure to let it thoroughly air outside in sunlight before placing a bird in the cage and given you have no more than a week I would suggest going for an acrylic water based satin paint, which should be Ok in the time frame you have. Don't go for gloss - doesn't look that good on a cage. Ask a specialist paint shop for the hardest wearing satin acrylic.
cheers,
Mike

went to a paint store asked what pet safe paints they have, found a heat resistant spray paint used on BBQ's, so it's food safe and thinking of it's food safe should be bird safe... hopefully
