In just under a week I'm getting my 4 month galah! I am over the moon to get him. But the night of the day I am getting him, there is a 21st I have to attend, I'm trying everything to not attend but in the case I cannot avoid it, would it be okay to leave him (safe and secure of course) for the night? I know a new bird needs time to de-stress and get to know their surroundings without humans constantly in their faces, but will not being their for the first night damage the new bond or him in anyway? He will be very safe and my mother is willing to check on him every couple of hours... I'm just very unsure if this is okay to do...

Hi chewynum, how exciting or you! I'm definitely no expert but would suspect that your galah will want to sleep at night. I know my ringneck gives a loud squawk as the sun starts to go down telling me he wants to go to bed. I put him in his birdy bunk and he goes to sleep. If I don't he squawks until I do. It might be a good time for him to chill out and relax in his new surroundings, ready for the attention in the morning. I'm sure he'll be fine . Please post some photos once you get him.

He should be fine - try to ensure he has a couple of hours of daylight after he gets home to settle in to the new cage and find where the food and water is. Then leave him overnight with a low light on so that he can see where he is and can find the water if he gets thirsty overnight.
As a night light we use either a wall socket baby night light or a 25 watt bulb in a table light on the opposite side of a room to the cages. We actually have them on every night so there is enough light for the birds to see if they need to.
Next morning you can both start to spend time mutually getting to know each other.
cheers,
Mike

I'm getting him around lunch time so he'll have a good amount of daylight left I have one of those plastic string/rope lights, it gives off a little heat too, keeps the room semi warm as well! Was going to string that around the top of my room, gives off a bit more then a night light though... but with a blanket over the cage it should be dark enough too. Thank you all for the info and help

Just a low wattage desk light would be fine - just subdued lighting needed.
I don't cover my cages - some do and some don't but I've never seen the point in it to be honest. And Galahs are great chewers of cage covers. Personally I think subdued lighting and no cover will be enough for him to settle down for the night.
cheers,
Mike
