Have a big gum tree out the back and a good chunk of branches fell down in a storm. So i raided it for cage perches for my soon to be galah I washed them in a vinegar and water solution then used a high pressure water hose (thing works amazingly!) giving them a sun dry right now. There is some sap in a couple of knots. Do i need to remove the dried sap? and if so what's the best way? Was thinking of just sanding it down.

Eucalypt branches are great for perches - but I don't bother with all that cleaning - I just cut them to size and use them as is. If the sap is at all sticky then cut it out of the branch - you don't want any sap getting on the bird's feathers.
cheers,
Mike
