I stumbled on this site when I was looking for general information on magpies. I've loved birds for the past 20 years and although I'm over the aviaries now - have an old lorikeet of 20 and a cockatiel of the same age still surviving.
My main pleasure these days is watching the native birds and although a lot of people don't recommend it - I do feed some of my favourite meat eaters a little lean mince.
I've done a little breeding of budgies and lovebirds - but more rescue in the fact that for many years lots of unwanted and sick birds were dumped on my doorstep. I learnt to nurse many of them back to health.
All birds are beautiful as far as I'm concerned and most are very intelligent.

Hi ad welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy being here.
Just a comment that you are likely well aware of from your experience but which might be of use to others. When feeding mince to wild meat eating birds, it is a good idea to add a little calcium supplement to the meat. Wild birds eating mince can get calcium deficient if they end up eating mostly provided mince, and that can happen if they are getting fed at more than one place.
cheers,
Mike
