Hi there,
I've been browsing this forum, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I really liked the thread on wild food for parrots.... I think I'm going to have to learn to identify some plants beyond basic vegetables!
I got my boyfriend an Indian ringneck for his birthday in November, and he's a great little bird with heaps of personality.
It's the first time either of us have owned a parrot, and we are totally hooked on ringnecks now! We have found our bird very intelligent and he has a great capacity for picking up tricks. The breeder advised us to socialise him a lot his first 6 months, so he's attended numerous afternoon bbqs and social occasions and he's pretty comfortable around strangers. We have left him fully flighted and he puts up with an aviator harness when we take him out and about. He has been trying to talk a lot lately and a couple words are intelligible. I think he aimed rather high by starting with a sentence, it comes out as "mumble mumble DOING!" He has started saying "good boy" too. Umm I'd better stop raving about our awesome bird before this post ends up the length of.war and peace...
Regards, Claire

Hi zena, We are lucky our house mate doesn't mind the noise, though the ringneck we hear the most actually lives 2 houses up the street from us! My boyfriend has wanted a parrot for ages, but couldn't get one because the last housemates we had were really thoughtless (the type of people who leave doors open when you have told him the bird is out of it's cage) and we couldn't risk having any pets while they were here. But it was worth the wait, cos now we have a great bird

I have a pair of Princess Parrots though, and the male can get quite loud when he wants to... my female, not so much, sometimes though ;D

We have 3 untamed but very cute budgies and I got my first ringneck just before Xmas, so I'm very new to this but totally smitten and blown away by how clever my ringneck is

Hehe yeah, ringnecks are awesome! Our one picked up waving his little foot at me on command today. As soon as you figure out how to communicate something to them just run with it.

ooh sunny coast people, and yes, more like rainy coast.. good grief the wet is back too.. your ring necks sounds great! i tend to be a bit timid with the bigger birds, cockatiels and budgies beaks, far less intimidating lol.. my dad has two ringneck pairs that lay eggs every year but no young ones ever seem to come from them.. just blank eggs.. not sure what thats about .. anyways, its nice to meet u all
