So i've got the inevitable (?) letter from the council about a noise complaint regarding my birds. No idea where the complaint has come from, everyone in the neighbourhood seems to keep to themselves and no one's approached me. same complainant has also complained about my dogs barking - in particular barking at people who walk past house....
anyway, I have a largish aviary round the side of the house between a colourbond fence and the side of the house as well as the front gate so there's a bit of echo coming off the walls and fence. In the aviary i generally have 5 birds - 2 sulphur cresteds, 1 RTB, a galah and a corella. all birds come in at night and go out again in the morning.
the 2 sulphurs and RTB are for the msot part quiet, they'll scream is they see another bird flying over but they're actually pretty good. the galah and corella on the other hand go mental when i put them into the aviary each morning and squawk and fly around like crazy for 5-10mins before settling down. they also do this in the evening. since the person who complained hasnt actually spoken to me i'm not sure what in particular they're upset about
I was thinking of putting some sort of dampening material along the colourbond fence and the walls of the house to absorb the sound - is this likely to make much impact? the aviary is about 1m from the colourbond fence and about 2-2.5 to the house. the other thing i was thinking is what could i use to dampen the sound even if this was possible? the material itself would get wet and eventually rot (i imagine). but before we even get into material, would this idea perhaps dampen the sound at all or is it a flawed plan?
