After my galah passed two weeks ago my family and I was devastated.... A friend came to the rescue and gave me her second lorikeet. I've been having some personal issues as well and getting him was perfect.
But it's only been just under a week and he's already driving me insane. He's very high maintenance even for a lorikeet, we don't know who is previous owner was as he flew into our friends house and just stayed... He's a shoulder bird through and through and starts freaking out when he's even a meter away from me, i try ignoring him and waiting till he is quiet but he has this extremely loud screech barking noise on top of the numerous other deafening sounds. He chews everything... and I'm afraid he will hurt or kill himself. Unless he is right on your shoulder 24/7 he becomes a nightmare.
So when ever he gets too much I put him in the bathroom till he calms down but that doesn't last long... He starts back up very quickly.
I know I can train these behaviors out of him but they are very deeply ingrained.
I have done the beginners mistake in bird keeping... I got a rebound bird after I lost my first one... I will care for him but I just don't have the love and affection for him like I should...
I want to put him up for sale, with the place I live in I know he would be bought in a heartbeat and giving the love and affection he deserves and adores.
It just feels like I'm shirking my responsibility as a bird owner by putting him up for sale, or is this the right thing to do?
I'm giving myself a week to try to bond properly with him but i don't think it will work...
