I recently got my galah a new bird cage - set me back $170 and I've just set it up with gum tree branches and its manageable. A photo of the cage is below. Now it is big enough for him to stretch etc in, but the bars on the cage are quite thinly spaced.. I got another cage recently for some much smaller birds (Bourkes Parrots) and they have larger gaps.. I actually had to modify it with aviary wire in places to stop them escaping.. Now I could switch cages, however the other cage is much smaller and not really appropriate for a galah. I notice my Galah has some difficulty latching onto the smaller wire and I'm wondering if I should just go out and get another cage and maybe sell his . Is there an issue with thinly spaced wire and cocks? Here is a pic of his current one:

The cage should be fine for a Galah - looks like an Avi One 604 cage. The Galah will soon get the hang of climbing around in it. My only worry would be that some Galahs may decide to chew the bars and they are thin enough that he might start at least bending them. My Alexandrines are able to chew right through them! However most Galahs won't do that.
Avi One used to make a stronger and slightly larger version the 606 model but their latest on-line catalogue doesn't include it so it might have been dropped from their list. That would be a pity - I have 5 of them for our Alex's and Greys, and they will need replacing in the next year!
cheers,
Mike
