Hello,
I'm a artist based in Melbourne (Australia) and I am currently studying my master's degree. I am interested in getting in contact with someone who can assist me with an art work. It involves documenting parrot speech so I am looking to work with talkative parrots in particular. Macaws would be great but I'm open to any social, talkative parrot who is not too shy with strangers.
The documentation would involve filming the parrot as well as myself reading to the parrot. During the filming I'm happy to just let the parrot respond to me reading to them however they feel like. I more that willing to film this in the parrot's in their familiar environment if that is more comfortable for the bird and owners.
The footage I will capture will be eventually edited into a final work and exhibited at a gallery. Anyone who contribute will be invited to the opening of the exhibition and I will be very grateful for their support.
I am also open to any advice anyone would like to offer me about working with taking parrots. I have been reading that they are highly intelligent and complex creatures. I would like to hear from an owners point of view; what are they typically like around strangers, how quickly do they start to mimic speech, are they okay being photographed (I know some animals can get a little intimidated by this).
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and hope to hear from you soon.
Kate
