Hi, I don't have my galah yet should be early December I would love to be prepared for he/she when I bring it home. i hope for it to be out of the cage for most of the day. But there will be days when it will have to be in. And of course at night. so just wondering what toys are best for Galahs and were to get them. Thanks Sarah

I haven't had mine long, but her favourites are: - anything leather - small, lightweight stuffed toys that she likes to roll around on the floor 'killing' (mine were $1 from Big W) - small cardboard boxes - pencils (she's not supposed to have them but helps herself given half a chance) - bread sticks/grissini and shop-bought French toast, which get played with AND eaten - paperbark branches - gumnuts - seed pods from bottlebrush trees - pine cones (preferably not opened ones) and seed pods from fir trees
I put a sheet down on the lounge room floor with a selection of toys, water, some of her favourite fruit/veg and a nice branch for chewing/perching. She's happy there for hours.
You don't have to spend a fortune on toys. Anything small enough to be manipulated will be given a go (including things they're not supposed to play with, like Lego and electrical cords). Also anything chewy, as long as it's non-toxic and doesn't have threads and things that could get tangled around toes. I've heard of people giving them babies' teething toys as well.

Thanks Sarah I'm sure you will get lots of enjoyment from your next Galah when it arrives - I assume it is being hand raised, or about to be hand raised at present? A good source of toys is the Parrot Rescue Centre - www.parrotrescuecentre.com/shop - they do good work rehoming unwanted parrots and all theireprofits go back to the welfare of the birds. They have a big range of toys, and for a Galah toys that they can chew are great as well as foraging toys that make them work for their food. It is very important with Galahs to get them onto a healthy diet since they do have a tendency to become fat which can cause major health problems. Have a look through the Cockatoo section of the Forum and you will find plenty of information about diet. cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike,
Yes the galah is being hand raised. Thanks very much for you help and advice. I have done reading on diets and will do more. I will checkout the link for the toys.
Thanks heaps Sarah
