I would like to know if I can feed my birds potato. If so cooked or raw. Thanks. I never feed my birds potato - if I was to then I would probably cook it. I don't think it harmful but I can think of many vegetables more suited to feed birds than potato. I like those that have a green, red, yellow or orange colour - much more nutritious. cheers, Mike

I do feed my birds other vegies and fruit but I have a few left over and hate to waste them. What about sweet potato is that safe as well? Sweet potato is Ok - cooked is fine - rich in Vitamin A. Normal potato really add snothing useful to a bird's diet - mainly carbohydrate which they get plenty of in seed. Also has a lousy calcium to phosphorus ratio - the Ca/Ph ratio is 1 to 8 when it should be 2 to 1 - twice as much Ca as Ph. Sweet potato is also high in carbohydrates but has lots and lots of Vit. A and it's Ca/Ph ration is almost 1 to 1 - I would give small amounts if I had some left over from a meal, cheers, Mike
