Boots is very playful and can be very cuddly also very naughty but recently (last month or two) boots has these silly moment that last no longer then 2 mins where it's eyes go in and out (like trying to focus) and bites really hard and won't let go it happens a few times day he squwarks when doing it to . I don't know why or what he is doing I want him to stop biting but I don't know how?? Any ideas on what it might be?

Well the first thing is to recognize when these silly episodes are starting and leave him to his own devices - don't try to interact until he settles down, lorikeet bites HURT as you have no doubt found out. Learning to read body language is important for any parrot - doubly important with Lorikeet. My guess for the reason is perhaps his/her age - 12 months is the time the hormones get going and start to play a part in their behaviour - he has matured. If you have a Google search for "why is my lorikeet is biting" or similar you will turn up many people with similar problems, with plenty of thread on this forum on the same subject. Also have a look at web.archive.org/web/20091017225526/http://www.mooloolabapets.com.au/html/lorikeets.htm - it is an article, now in archives, that was on the website for my old shop. I really must get it moves onto a current web site, it is a problem that occurs so often. cheers, Mike
