I have 3 budgies....
Buddy is blue with a white 'chin' and black lacey pattern on the tips of his wings. He is 9 weeks old.
Marley is a weird colour. He is only 2 weeks younger than Buddy, but so much smaller. He is white, with very pale purple tummy, and brown lacey edges on his wings. Although he is way littler than Buddy, his eyes are a lot bigger.
I have had them since they were 3 weeks old (obviously I got Marley 2 weeks later than Buddy).
They are both very tame, and have a free run (fly) of our house when we're home....except when I'm cooking .
Anyway...my poor little 3rd budgie is only 2 weeks old. We got him/her from the same person we got Buddy and Marley from. He bought this poor little thing over 4 days ago, hoping my husband would euthanase him, as he has a deformed leg/foot, as he did not have the heart to do it himself. Well it turned out that I didn't have the heart either...one look at the poor little fellow, and I fell in love.
I am a nurse, so I 'procured' some bandaging from work, and with a lot of patience and help from hubby, I was able to put his leg and foot/toes into it's natural position with the tiniest crepe bandage ever!
We have been getting him to sleep in a knitted hammock at night with his little legs dangling through 2 holes so as he is not weight-bearing on them all the time. Through the day, he is out of his hammock and I sit him with both his legs/feet in a normal position, and support him with cotton wool.
After 3 days, (yesterday), I removed the bandage, and it seems as though his deformed leg/foot is looking so much better. I re-bandaged it again after a few hours, and will be continuing with the 'night hammock' for a while longer. He has feeling and motion in his deformed leg, it is quite pink and healthy looking.
I am so sorry this is such a long post, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had similar problems, or am I wasting my time? He is eating well, and thriving otherwise.
