Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum!! I have fallen in love with alexandrines a couple months earlier, and my life now consists, of homework(school), bird toy making and extensive research on Alex's!! But recently I have been told to not get a bird i am gone 8-9 hrs a day on weekdays, but it will let him out as soon as I get home and interact with him. On weekends I will Let him out for the whole time I'm home and play with him, train him and do the daily necessities. But is this still not enough? Please help me. i am also curious as to what food you guys feed your Alex's? What brand of pellets and what type? Thankyou, regard, Tay

Thankyou, regard, Tay Hi Tay and welcome to the Forum. I've talked with you on the Facebook page you were given that advice. I think that the time you will have to spend is quite adequate for an Alexandrine as long as the cage environment is well set up to keep it busy while you are not there - toys, foraging opportunities, and plenty of browse to chew - Alex's love to chew - they think it is why they are here - to chew. And since it is now too late to get a young bird just weaned you will have to wait until late spring anyway so there is plenty of time to prepare. As I have said elsewhere I feed Roudybush as my preferred pellets, but I will also give Vetafarm Maintenance - a lower quality pellet in my opinion - when I am trying to reduce breeding behaviour in the spring, with our house flock of 10 Alex's. I keep hearing good reports about Zupreem but have yet to try them myself. Finally a photo of a group of babies, still being hand fed cheers, Mike
