Hi every one I'm Andrew and have just become a member after a while reading your great forum. I have a question to ask anyone in the know regarding Neophema Chrysostoma or grass parrots. In Geelong on Sunday at the aviculture society bird sale I purchased a pair of blue winged grass parrots I chose the birds wanted from a group of birds held in a Carry box and it seems the gentleman selling the birds may have grabbed the wrong bird ( should have double checked) While there is no question to me that the male is a blue winged parrot ( olive green to yellow body light and dark bile stripe above beak to eyes). I'm not 100% sure what the female is. It doesn't have the stripe above the beak and through the eyes and is more darker green and not the olive to yellow green like the male. If any one can help using the attached photos it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Andrew.

Hi Andrew, welcome to the Forum
She certainly isn't a Blue-wing - I think she is a female red-fronted Turquoisine hen. The only other possibility was a Scarlet hen, they are very similar, but the yellow lores (the feathers between the eye and the base of the beak) indicate a Turk. Might be worth getting in touch with the seller and arranging a swap - if he still has the hen Blue-wing.
cheers,
Mike
