Okay, so I live in southern california, I am a rescue for the California Desert Tortiose. Last night around midnight my father came home after work with twelve unweaned california quails. Now they are the state bird here, and while trying to get in contact with the Wildlife Fish n' Games department, I need help. These little guys and gals can't stand, are no bigger then maybe a fifty cent peice, and are constantly flopping on their back. I'm calling wildlife fish n games every fifteen minutes, but these little guys are cheeping loudly for food. What should I feed them and how should I feed them?! I don't want them starving and all, please, I need immediate helpz!

Update:
I got in contact with wildlife fish n games and got the number for a rehabilitation center. I'm going to call them once I get home and see how the quail'lings are doing seeing as they're might be a chance I have to take them to the place instead of them coming to pick them up. I still need to know what to feed them and or how to feed them them thought.

Quail are able to feed them selves after hatching - like chickens - and can survive without their parents.. All they need to small seed such a finch seed or even budgie seed, and water. A very good food is chicken starter crumbles, something a produce store would sell. Basically feed them like newly hatched chickens. And water of course but in a very shallow dish so they are not at risk of drowning. Hopefully you were able to get them to the rehab centre and they have survived. California Quail are the cutest birds - we have them here in Australia although not commonly kept. I've had a few over the years, and always enjoyed having them in the aviary. cheers, Mike
