Hi, I'm new here I've got a beautiful 4 month old rainbow lorikeet, and I've done just about as much googling as you can, and the more I google, the more confused I get! I was just wondering if there are and lorikeet owners out there that can clear thing up for me? Is there a routine I should get her in? Do you guys give your lorikeets flowers from the wild? Is there a particular way to play with your lorikeet? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
In the way of flowers I give mine ones that I pick from 'wild' but I make sure I stick to Aussie flowers eg bottle brush, grevillias

Hi! I have 5 month old rainbow lorikeet as well and I am pretty new to "raising parrots" so sharing experiences would be great. My lovely male lory has been pretty good until recently and I am wondering if he is starting his puberty. He is pretty happy to come out of his cage - he tends to beg for it especially in the mornings. Then he enjoys playing on the clothing rack and sofa running spreading his wings *screaming!* and head bobbing. He has just learned to say "what's up" (sounding like donald duck) and tends to whistle and repeat it all the time. He loves food and tries to eat everything you put in your mouth... he has even learned to climb onto the kitchen table (his wings were clipped so he can't fly). I have given him plenty of toys but his favourite seems to be the round sock dryer with pegs! it is almost like a carousel for him!
I have had couple of scary situations where he has turned on me. This happened when I was putting my make-up on the other day and he decided to go through the contents of my make-up bag and I gently pushed him away. So he decided to attack my hand by biting hard and then jumped on my chest where he nipped on my chin (drawing blood). At this point my reaction was to jump up and shake him off, which worked. I left him on the sofa to cool down and then put him back to his cage (he was not biting anymore). I think he tends to guess that everytime the make-up comes out it means that I am going away and leaving him alone. I don't know if this is the reason why he bit me. He tends to guess as well when I leave the house (not just the room) and starts screaming on top of his voice. This has happened few times now. Otherwise he seems happy and always wants to play and roll around on his back, begs for head scratching and whistles with chatter. Also he used to sleep in the corner of his cage (not using perches) and now he has started sleeping on the highest perch in the cage?
I am slightly getting worried that the behaviour will get worse or is this bad? Is he going through puberty?
