Hello Everyone!
Please help me! I found a baby galah yesterday that was on the ground (under a large tree) and can't fly. It's parents seemed to be around so I left it for a few hours but kept an eye on it from distance. It was only when it started getting attacked by a crow that I decided to rescue it. The tree it seemed to come from is very big so I wouldn't be able to put it back in its nest. It has all it's feathers but has a very short tail. There are some grey feathers through its pink chest.
I bought some Vetafarm Neocare Hand Rearing Formula yesterday at the local pet shop (it is what they recommended). I have tried to feed it a few times and it doesn't seem to like it. It is very messy and dribbles down its chest rather than in its mouth. I have made it up according to the instructions on the pack with warm water etc. I have tried feeding it with a spoon and a syringe. I'm worried that it's not swallowing the food and not getting enough. I have also given it some fresh grasses, seeds and water in bowls but it doesn't seem to help itself to these either. I have also tried to put a de-shelled sunflower seed in its mouth a few times but it spits it out. How much food is it meant to eat in one feeding session? How do I encourage it to eat when it seems uninterested? (I have tried wrapping it in a towel and lifting his head while placing food in its mouth). Is it old enough to be eating food by itself or should I keep trying to feed it formula?
Any my advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much, Tawnie
