Here in Brisbane the weather has been great since September, and it has really shown in our breeders this year. We have had 100% hatch rate! Great news for our modest collection. That means we have 5 red-rumps about to fledge (four boys and a girl), and 6 princess parrots; one has fledged and the others are eagerly cramming themselves around the nestbox opening, flapping wings and such. Great effort from first time parents. Even more amazingly, 2 baby quails hatched out yesterday! Usually I never count the quails as our girl lays so many eggs and they never hatch, I just use them for craft usually haha. Well I went to collect eggs yesterday for crafty purposes, but there were two little chicks there instead! They are just the cutest fluffiest things ever, one little dark one and a little light one running around after mum and dad. Sorry to gush so, but they seriously are so adorable. Mum runs around with her wings spread slightly whilst they run one under each wing. This is the same quail that we use for incubating accidental eggs, like the two little cockatiels she hatched earlier this year! Anyhow, wondering how other people from around Australia are going with their breeding season? Cheers, Melissa
