Hi
I am new to this forum site but I have a strange sort of question. About a week ago we purchased an Olive Blue Fronted Male Rainbow Lorikeet For my female Rainbow Lorikeet.
To start with they were caged separately an are now in the same cage when we are home and out around the house together. They are both hand reared an very friendly and seem to have their favourite people to hang around with (as birds do)
The thing I have noticed is she is very protective of her bubble. As in if he is to close she hisses an chased him out of her bubble. But they are happy to eat fruit out of the same dish at the same time.
However. When they are out an with their preferred person (the male stays around me while the female stays with my partner....just seem to happen even when we swap they switch back) she will "beep" as soon as he is out of site, can be he just goes to the opposite side of my neck or I walk to a different room and he follows, and it is constant until we are back in site then he gets told off an all settles down.
Any ideas on what this "beep" is for? Is it something a bonded pair do?
I haven't put a nest box in yet as they are only just 12 months old so I am waiting a few months first. But I am beginning to think I should an just see what happens.
