Hi Everyone,
I am the proud owner of a hand raised baby Rainbow lorikeet named Jiemba. I have had him now for almost 3 months and He is about 4 months old. We have a relatively good bond and I have been watching and reading a lot about how to train him. I realise that biting is common and there are many reasons that they may bite, but I have been perplexed by one particular behaviour that has started to crop up over the last month or so. I started giving him fresh flowers such as gum flowers right from when I first got him and he loves them, however recently whenever I give him flowers he starts attacking me and biting me even though he loves them! I don't understand why he would be doing this! When he does this I remove the flower and put him down, trying to deprive him of my attention for a few minutes, so as to avoid reinforcing the behaviour. But this specific pattern keeps cropping up. Has anyone else had any experience with similar behaviour or can anyone help me with any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

The nectar in flowers has a high natural sugar content so he may just be on a "sugar high". Try only giving flowers in his cage and see if that helps.
