Hi everybody,
I’m desperately appealing to any other lorikeet owners who have experienced what my bird does, or can explain it. I’ve been unable to find anything online that is similar and am at my wits end!
I found a rainbow lorikeet chick that had fallen out of the nest 12 years ago and I raised her and she’s my bird. Loving relationship etc. etc.
About 8 months ago she started a strange behaviour. More often than not, after I feed her fruit or wet Wombaroo mix she starts this repetitive head movement while making a wet noise with her mouth (it looks like she’s regurgitating the food and enjoying it again?). She can sit there in this trance-like state for more than an hour, completely unresponsive to any attention from me or anyone else (she’s 100% tame and usually playful and fun loving). Everyone who sees it agrees it does not look natural or healthy. Is this some kind of bird OCD/psychological problem?
