Hi guys, first time posting to the forums so nice to meet everyone~
post might be a bit long as i'd like to explain my situation in detail
I've been recently considering to move onto larger handraised birds from the current budgies I own.
Just couldn't stop being enchanted by the intelligence, playfulness and cuddly personalities of lovebirds and parrotlets. :'D
I have owned a handraised cockatiel previously but it left me hesitant to moving onto larger birds
as Piper (the cockatiel) constantly screamed for attention despite my best efforts to keep up with him. (he's a sweetheart, feat. in dp)
His personality was very endearing and loves to cuddle when he's with me but starts throwing tantrums when I return him to the cage.
I know that cockatiels are supposed to be a "low maintenance" parrot of the more personable species beyond budgies
so all the petshop's I've asked so far just dissuaded me from going any further up to the more "cuddly" "demanding" birds.
I really can't tell if it was just Piper's one off personality or my negligence towards the needs of cockatiels
since I'm well versed in keeping beginner birds like my budgies, Lawrence, Chiffon and Echo. (with 10 years worth of budgie keeping)
It's mainly due to this, I've been really hesitant in adopting any new species of small parrots
as I really don't know if I'm capable of taking the next step up with my current knowledge and free-time.
So far, I'm considering either handraised lovebirds, parrotlets or green cheek conures and perhaps revisit cockatiels,
but I'd really like to know people's first-hand experiences with these birds and whether I just don't have the suitable environment for them.
I'll be starting uni shortly and be attending 3 days of school and perhaps 2 days of work
so probably 5-7 hours away from home each weekday while spending the rest of my time home.
I'm hoping to possible look for a bird who loves to be handled and cuddled but would fare just as well by themselves at home.
(Perhaps in the company of my current male budgie, Echo)
Thanks for taking the time to read this
and looking forward to getting to know everyone and their birds!
