Do you know how to tell the difference between male & female?

The only true way is DNA or surgical sexing. The males exhibit mating behaviour at about 2-3 years so then it's easier but if you have two together I believe sometimes a male will take on female traits and vice versa so the only real way is as above or if one lays a fertile egg.
